Care comes before every visit
Give the porcupines space to rest and retreat. A visit does not guarantee close contact, feeding or a particular animal behaviour. Caretaker instructions and the animals’ needs always take priority.
The porcupines are cared for in accordance with applicable Malaysian wildlife requirements.
A considerate visit
- Contact Ti-Ratana before arriving and wait for confirmation.
- Supervise children at all times.
- Keep noise low. Do not chase, tease or startle animals.
- Do not touch or feed any animal without specific permission.
- Do not enter enclosures or put hands through fencing.
- Follow caretaker instructions, including requests to step back or end the visit.
- Dress appropriately and respect monks, nuns, students and devotees.
- Avoid interrupting classes, chanting and other Buddhist activities.
- Resident cats and dogs may be present and may approach visitors.
Feeding is allowed only with the express permission and direct guidance of the resident nun, who is the porcupines’ primary caregiver. Use only food she approves. Feeding is not guaranteed during a visit.
